Okeite: The Deadly Pot Killing Young Men in Igboland, Now a New Tool for Yahoo Boys

As internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo, continues to evolve, a more sinister dimension has emerged, particularly in the eastern part of Nigeria. This new practice, called Okeite, is now being used by young men desperate for wealth.
According to sources, this ritual is fast replacing traditional online scams, as fraudsters seek bigger payouts.
“If you see any Yahoo boy spending money lavishly, this is what he’s into. Ordinary Yahoo no longer pays. To get big money, they now turn to this,” a source revealed.
The Cost of Okeite
The preparation of this ritual charm is costly. Experienced native doctors charge anywhere from N1.5 million to N3 million to prepare it. Some do not take upfront payments but instead demand a percentage of the wealth generated. Surprisingly, it is not just internet fraudsters who use Okeite—some traders also turn to it for financial gains.
How Okeite is Made
Okeite, also known as money ritual (ogwu ego), involves a mixture of dark and spiritual elements. The ingredients include: Bats and other dangerous birds, bitter herbs, roots, and barks of spiritual trees like Ogilisi, dog’s body parts, and human body parts.
The most sought-after human remains come from: victims of road accidents, those who died at a young age, women who died childless, mortuary attendants often serve as suppliers of these body parts.
However, not all native doctors can prepare Okeite—it requires deep occult knowledge. Any inexperienced native doctor attempting it risks being destroyed by its spiritual backlash.
Okeite is not the only dangerous ritual used to acquire wealth or power. Others include:
Ibobo Isi Atu – Used by celebrities, contractors, drug lords, and security heads to command respect and instill fear. It gives the bearer an aura of influence, ensuring their business proposals and requests are prioritised.
Udu Ako Mmili – A mystical calabash that supposedly never runs dry, similar in function to Okeite.
Okeawele – Popular among traders, transporters, and farmers for financial success.
Aro Agba Aka – A newly discovered charm believed to be the deadliest. It ensures wealth every year but comes with devastating consequences.
While these charms promise wealth, their consequences are often fatal. The side effects include: Frequent loss of family members, infertility or loss of children at birth, gradual destruction of the user’s bloodline, constant fear, paranoia, and lack of peace of mind.
The wealth gained from these charms never lasts. Properties and riches often vanish after the user’s death, leaving nothing for their descendants.
One of the most terrifying aspects of Okeite according to sources is its unpredictability. The charm selects its sacrifices randomly—family members, close friends, or even the user themselves.
“The native doctor doesn’t know who the charm will take. It picks randomly. That’s why some wealthy people can boldly swear they are not behind any death, yet the charm continues to claim lives in their family,” the source explained.
Once the charm stops frothing, it signals that the user’s time is up. This is why many young men involved in such rituals die in road accidents, mysterious illnesses, or sudden madness.
Many who admire the flashy lifestyle of Yahoo boys fail to realize the dark forces behind their wealth. The source warned:
“No truly wealthy person engages in these things. At best, they buy Benz, build houses, and throw money at parties. But they never become truly successful. Ordinary Yahoo stopped paying about five years ago, so those still flaunting huge sums have likely turned to this deadly path.”
The message is clear: do not envy or compare yourself to those whose wealth has no known source. Instead, focus on legitimate means of success and avoid paths that lead to irreversible regret.
