Olubadan: Olaniyan, Ladoja, Akala, K1 Attend Oba Adetunji’s Burial

The remains of the immediate past Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji have been laid to rest.

First Weekly recalls that the Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji joined his ancestors in the early hours of Sunday.

The monarch, who ruled over 11 local government areas that make up Ibadan, died less than one month after the death of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi.

 

The remains of the monarch were committed to mother earth on Sunday.

He was buried at his palace located at Popoyemoja area of Ibadan.

The monarch, who died at the age of 93, was buried in line with Islamic rites.

The body was brought to the palace some minutes before 5 pm from Mapo Hall where a prayer was offered.

The body was thereafter lowered into the grave around 5 pm.

Present at his burial were hundreds of mourners, family friends and relatives.

Others included Islamic clerics led by the Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheik Abdulganiy Abubakar who offered prayers for the soul of the monarch.

 

The eminent personalities who attended the burial of the monarch included the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan; former governors of the state, Senator Rasidi Ladoja; Adebayo Alao Akala, Alhaji Easily Ayinde and Bada Balogun of Ibadan land, Chief Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke.

The monarch died at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan in the early hours of Sunday.

The remains were moved from UCH to the palace shortly after the death of the monarch.
