A dramatic scene unfolded in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Friday as operatives of the security outfit set up by Chukwuma Soludo arrested a popular native doctor known as Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya, also called “Aka Mmuo.”
The native doctor was picked up by members of the Agunechemba security team at his shrine in Nnewi. Before taking him away, operatives reportedly asked him to demonstrate the powers he often claimed to possess. He was taken to his shrine and urged to invoke a spiritual force he called “Eze Nwanyi” as proof that his charms were real.
Witnesses said the native doctor performed incantations in an attempt to summon the spirit. But after several moments, nothing happened. With no sign of the supposed power he had invoked, he reportedly stood up in visible disappointment before security operatives moved in and took him into custody.
Shortly after his arrest, the young native doctor broke down and appealed for mercy. In an emotional plea, he begged Governor Soludo for forgiveness.
“I have sinned,” he reportedly confessed, promising to change his ways and never deceive young people in the state again.
He said he was ready to turn a new leaf if given another chance.
His arrest comes amid an ongoing crackdown on suspected fraudulent spiritual practices and criminal activities linked to some native doctors in Anambra State.
