Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Defects From PDP To APC

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement issued by the Zamfara State Government and signed by the Director-General of Media and Communication in the Governor’s Office, Nuhu Salihu Anka.
According to the statement, the governor’s decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, elders, and supporters across the state.
The government said the defection was taken in the overriding interest of stability, progress, and sustainable development in Zamfara. It also cited prolonged internal crises, leadership disagreements, and unresolved structural challenges within the PDP at both the state and national levels as factors that influenced the move.
Governor Lawal, in the statement, said his foremost responsibility remains the protection of lives and property as well as the advancement of development in the state. He noted that aligning with the APC would promote greater unity, political stability, and stronger cooperation with the Federal Government.
The statement disclosed that the final meeting preceding the decision was held at the Government House in Gusau and coordinated by the Deputy Governor alongside senior government officials and key political stakeholders.
While expressing appreciation to members and supporters of the PDP for their support over the years, Lawal said prevailing political realities made the defection necessary to ensure effective governance.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening unity, improving security, and accelerating development in Zamfara through closer collaboration with the Federal Government.
The state government urged citizens, political leaders, and party supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the state enters what it described as a new political phase aimed at promoting unity, stability, and development.
