NEM Insurance Plc has awarded cash grants to three female entrepreneurs who emerged winners of its “She Means Business” contest.

The firm, in a statement on Saturday, said the initiative aimed to support women-led enterprises and promote economic inclusion by providing tangible backing for sustainable business growth.

It reaffirmed commitment to fostering economic growth through women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and gender inclusion.

The company explained that the programme moved beyond symbolic celebration to delivering practical support for female entrepreneurs building viable businesses.

Beneficiaries are Dorcas Egbedara Opeoluwa, a perfume producer; Chisom Kanu, a shoe merchant; and Eniola Mary, a fashion designer.

The grants are expected to help the entrepreneurs expand operations and strengthen their market presence.

Managing Director, Andrew Ikekhua, congratulated the winners and urged female entrepreneurs to build professional structures and secure insurance for long-term business sustainability.

He encouraged women to move beyond subsistence ventures and embrace the technical discipline required to build enduring enterprises.

Ikekhua praised the resilience of Nigerian women navigating an increasingly complex and competitive economic landscape.

He said: “Please keep pushing boundaries, keep breaking barriers and keep striving.

“Starting and sustaining a business is rarely easy in today’s environment, but you are capable of greatness. Your strength inspires others and your voice matters.”

He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grants wisely, citing African entrepreneurs who transformed modest capital into thriving conglomerates.

Ikekhua stressed that passion alone could not scale a business.

He identified structure, sales and marketing as the tripod sustaining successful enterprises.

“In building a business empire, you need structure. You need sales, marketing and advertising. That is how ideas become reality and entrepreneurs succeed,” he said.

He added that small business ownership offers autonomy, urging entrepreneurs to take full charge of their time and strategy.

Ikekhua concluded with a “triple charge” for entrepreneurs to de-risk investments through insurance.

“Whatever you are doing, think insurance. I repeat it three times: think insurance. When you think insurance, think NEM Insurance.

“Ensure you insure whatever sustains your business so that as you grow, your success remains protected,” he said.

He expressed optimism that by the next International Women’s Day many beneficiaries would return with stories of expanded operations.

General Manager, Corporate Services, Mojisola Teluwo, said the initiative was more than corporate social responsibility but a strategic investment in society.

“We believe when a woman thrives, a family thrives. When families thrive, communities grow, and when communities grow, businesses and nations prosper,” she said.

She described the awards as a vote of confidence in the winners’ vision and leadership capacity.

Teluwo said while the company’s core business centred on protection and stability, its broader mission included promoting sustainable growth and inclusive development.

“Beyond policies and premiums, we are also in the business of impact,” she said.

The event, featuring the presentation of prize money, highlighted NEM Insurance’s commitment to empowerment and financial security.

The winners thanked the company for the support and pledged to use the grants to grow their businesses.
