Birthday Celebration Turns Deadly As Nigerian Designer Is Shot At Quilox Restaurant And Lounge

What was meant to be a joyful birthday outing ended in tragedy after 30-year-old Nigerian immigrant and aspiring fashion designer, Sheriff Shittu, was fatally shot inside Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. on Saturday while Sheriff was at the nightclub with his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, celebrating a friend’s birthday. The celebration came just hours before their mother was scheduled to arrive from Nigeria for a visit.
According to Fawaz, trouble began when an intoxicated patron allegedly started groping women at the club, including Sheriff’s girlfriend. A brief confrontation followed. To avoid further escalation, the brothers decided to leave the venue. However, they returned shortly after realizing Sheriff had left his phone behind.
As the unruly patron was being escorted out and attempts were reportedly being made to calm the situation, a single gunshot rang out.
“I heard ‘pow,’ and I looked down and saw my brother,” Fawaz recounted. “I was screaming his name. I was trying to wake him up.”
A bartender immediately attempted CPR before emergency responders rushed Sheriff to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The gunman fled the scene and remains at large.
The grieving family has since questioned how the suspect was able to enter the nightclub with a weapon, raising concerns about possible security lapses.
Sheriff, who moved to the United States in 2018, worked as a security guard while nurturing his fashion brand, Riff Ent. Loved ones describe him as kind-hearted, hardworking, and deeply devoted to his family.
In a heartbreaking twist, his mother, Foluke Shittu, reportedly learned of her son’s death shortly after landing in New York for what was meant to be a joyful reunion.
As they mourn an unimaginable loss, the family says they are committed to keeping Sheriff’s fashion dream alive while demanding justice for his killing.
