Alara Of Ilara, Oba Ogunsanwo, Appointed As Sixth LASU Chancellor
The Alara of Ilara, Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, has been appointed as the sixth chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
As contained in a statement on Sunday, Emmanuel Fanu, LASU registrar and secretary of the governing council, said that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, appointed Ogunsanwo to succeed Gbolahan Elias, the fifth chancellor of the university.
According to Fanu, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which empowers the state governor to appoint the chancellor of the university.
“The new chancellor’s appointment is for a single term of five years, effective from February 13, 2026, and is renewable once,” the LASU registrar stated.
The university management and council congratulated Ogunsanwo on his appointment and expressed optimism that his leadership would advance the university’s vision and mission.
The university also commended Elias for his meritorious service during his tenure as chancellor.
Before ascending the throne to become the 55th traditional ruler of Ilara kingdom in the Eredo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Ogunsanwo had built a distinguished career in the private sector, notably in banking and finance, bringing managerial expertise and modern governance ideas into traditional leadership.
