United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group has announced the appointment of Loknath Mishra as the Chief Executive Officer of UBA UK, effective February 2, 2026.
The appointment underscores UBA’s strategic drive to strengthen its international operations and reinforce its position as a vital financial link between Africa and global markets.
In his new role, Mishra will lead efforts to position UBA UK as a centre of excellence in regulatory compliance and customer service, enhance the subsidiary’s financial resilience through diversified liquidity and income streams, and deepen the Group’s leadership in trade, transaction and correspondent banking to support business flows into and out of Africa.
Mishra brings decades of international banking experience spanning retail, corporate, investment and transaction banking. He is widely regarded for his success in building and leading regulated banking platforms across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Prior to joining UBA UK, he served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank UK, where he played a key role in expanding the bank’s footprint in the UK and Europe, while strengthening governance standards, regulatory engagement and operational resilience.
He also previously held several senior leadership positions at ICICI Bank Limited, including Group Head of Wholesale Banking and Global Head of Transaction Banking. In these roles, he contributed significantly to the expansion of the bank’s global wholesale franchise, enhanced risk management frameworks, and led customer-focused transformation initiatives across corporate, institutional and financial institution segments.
Mishra is recognised for his leadership in complex regulatory environments and for driving digital innovation in trade finance, cash management and retail banking. In recognition of his contributions to the financial services sector, he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
Commenting on the appointment, UBA Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, said Mishra brings an outstanding blend of global banking expertise, regulatory credibility and deep knowledge of wholesale and transaction banking.
“His leadership will be critical in advancing UBA UK’s role as a flagship international subsidiary and in strengthening our ability to support trade and investment flows between Africa and global markets,” Alawuba said, adding that the appointment reflects UBA’s continued investment in building a world-class international banking franchise that supports Africa’s integration into the global economy.
Expressing his delight, Mishra said he was honoured to join UBA at a time of significant opportunity for the Group.
“UBA’s unique role in connecting Africa to global markets is both compelling and strategically important. I look forward to working with colleagues across the Group to further strengthen UBA UK’s platform and to support clients in unlocking growth across Africa and beyond,” he said.
UBA UK remains a critical component of the Group’s international network, providing support to African corporates, financial institutions, sovereigns and global partners through its strong capabilities in correspondent banking, trade finance, transaction banking and treasury services.
