APC Welcomes Plateau Governor Mutfwang, Says Opposition Structures Have Collapsed

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally welcomed Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the ruling party, describing his defection as a historic political development that further strengthens the party’s national dominance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the APC National Chairman on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the party said the governor’s decision underscores the APC’s growing appeal as a platform of unity, inclusion and purposeful governance.
Speaking during the reception, the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said Governor Mutfwang’s entry into the party represents more than a political realignment, but a collective movement toward peace, stability and progress in Plateau State.
According to the statement, the APC chairman disclosed that the governor’s defection has led to the collapse of political structures and the migration of key actors from other parties into the APC, effectively positioning the ruling party as the dominant political force in the state.
“Today, my joy knows no bounds. This convergence reflects the confidence of the people in the APC as a party of unity and action. Plateau State is now firmly on the path of political stability and collective purpose,” Yilwatda was quoted as saying.
The APC chairman stressed that the party’s objective is not intimidation or exclusion, but responsible leadership anchored on unity and development.
“Our coming together is not driven by sentiment. It is about moving Plateau State in the right direction. Unity brings peace, and peace is the foundation of development. With this renewed unity, peace will permeate every community across Plateau State,” he said.
Professor Yilwatda noted that the strength of the APC lies in its ability to unite Nigerians beyond political, ethnic and religious differences, calling for unity, peace, justice and progress across Plateau State.
Using the APC broom as a symbol of cohesion, he explained that it represents the party’s determination to sweep away division, disunity and political fragmentation, while building a shared future for all Plateau citizens.
At the national level, the chairman noted that the APC currently governs 29 states, with prospects of further expansion, attributing the growth to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a courageous reformer committed to economic stability and national development.
“Before President Tinubu assumed office, nearly 30 states were struggling with unpaid salaries. Today, states are meeting their salary obligations, and there is renewed capacity for infrastructure development across the federation,” he said.
The statement further assured Governor Mutfwang of the party’s full support, expressing confidence that he would secure a second term based on performance, unity and popular support.
“The APC will stand firmly with Governor Caleb Mutfwang. With our collective strength and the support of the people, we are confident that he will be returned to the Government House for a second term,” Yilwatda stated.
The APC chairman also called on remaining political stakeholders and citizens in Plateau State to embrace the ruling party, describing it as a platform of opportunity, inclusion and sustainable development
