UK Tragedy: Nigerian Man Admits Murdering Ex-Girlfriend Over Breakup

A 40-year-old Nigerian man, Adedapo Adegbola, has pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old university student Steph Irons, after she ended their relationship.
The killing occurred on October 21 at Steph’s residence in Mapperley, Nottingham, sending shockwaves through the local community. Alarm was raised when Steph’s colleagues received a series of deeply concerning messages from her and promptly contacted the police.
Responding officers found Steph in the living room with fatal knife wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the attack, Adegbola fled immediately, abandoning blood-stained items, and moved through several towns in an apparent attempt to evade arrest before later turning himself in to the authorities.
Adegbola appeared before Nottingham Crown Court, where he formally pleaded guilty to murder. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on February 5.
The case has reignited conversations around domestic violence, obsessive relationships, and the deadly consequences of possessive control.
