Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.

The development was disclosed in a press release issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Yusuf’s return to the APC marks a homecoming, as he was originally a member of the party in 2014, when he won the APC primary for the Kano Central Senatorial seat before conceding the ticket to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Explaining his decision, the governor cited “prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion and development,” describing the APC as a familiar and well-structured platform capable of driving progressive governance.

Yusuf noted that rejoining the ruling party would strengthen Kano State’s relationship with the Federal Government, fast-track infrastructure development, improve security coordination, and enhance service delivery to residents of the state. He added that the move is also expected to promote political stability and unity across Kano.

On Monday, the governor is expected to officially register as a member of the APC in Kano. He will be accompanied by 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 Local Government Chairmen in the state. The event will also feature the formal launch of the APC’s e-registration exercise in Kano State.
