Controversial singer Habeed Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned and remanded in custody after facing a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
Portable was brought before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday, following his arrest over incidents linked to a complaint reportedly filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
Confirming the development, Ogun State Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the charges stem from an alleged confrontation at the singer’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day, where Portable was accused of attacking Ashabi, police officers, and other individuals.
Those listed as victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
The police further alleged that Portable stole a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, belonging to Ileyemi Damilola, with dealer number Wally Dex Auto.
In court, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as prosecution witnesses, though Ashabi herself was not present during the proceedings.
Portable was also accused of assaulting and obstructing a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
When his counsel applied for bail, the presiding judge declined, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge insisted that the officer must be physically present before a bail application could be considered.
Consequently, the court ordered Portable’s remand in custody and adjourned the matter until January 19 for a fresh bail hearing.
