President Tinubu Condoles With Chimamanda Adichie Over Son’s Death

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the son of renowned Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
In a State House press statement issued on Thursday, the President extended his condolences to Ms Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family, describing the loss as devastating.
President Tinubu, who noted that he speaks from personal experience, said the pain of losing a child is one of the most profound forms of grief any parent can endure.
“As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child,” the President said.
He expressed solidarity with the family during what he described as an extremely difficult period, assuring them of his prayers and support.
The President also paid tribute to Chimamanda Adichie’s global literary influence, noting that her works have brought inspiration, joy, and enlightenment to millions of readers across the world.
“Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally,” Tinubu stated, while praying that she and her family find strength and comfort in God during the time of mourning.
President Tinubu concluded by reaffirming that his thoughts and prayers remain with the bereaved family.
The condolence message was signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and dated January 8, 2026.
