Troops of the Nigerian Army under 12 Brigade have intensified counter-banditry operations in Kogi State, neutralising several criminals and arresting a suspected logistics supplier during coordinated ambush and patrol missions.

The operations were conducted on January 3, 2026, across Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas, following actionable intelligence on the movement and supply routes of armed bandits terrorising communities in the axis.

According to military sources, soldiers laid an ambush along a known bandit route in Kabba Bunu LGA, where they engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of fire. Two bandits were killed during the encounter, while assorted weapons and quantities of ammunition were recovered.

In a related operation, troops carried out a patrol into the Saminaka forest area of Yagba West LGA, a location identified as a hideout and transit point for criminal elements. One bandit was neutralised in the operation, and additional arms and ammunition were recovered.

The Army also recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected logistics supplier, identified as Sunday Adedotun. He was apprehended while conveying assorted drinks and other supplies believed to be meant for the bandits.

Preliminary investigations suggest he was actively supporting the criminal network’s sustenance and mobility.

Military authorities said the suspect is currently in custody and will be handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on bandit and terrorist networks in Kogi State and across the country, assuring residents that operations aimed at dismantling criminal supply chains and restoring lasting peace will continue.
