Media aide to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, Yomi Odunuga, has clarified that the widely reported marriage between his principal and Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, former wife of the Ooni of Ife, is not a recent development.
Speaking in an interview with The Punch, Odunuga said the marriage was consummated about a year ago, contrary to reports suggesting it was newly conducted.
According to him, public interest surged only because the couple appeared together during the Christmas festivities, giving the impression that the union had just taken place.
“The wedding took place last year. It is only because they stepped out together during Christmas that people assumed it is a new marriage,” Odunuga said.
The marriage became public knowledge on Christmas Day after Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George was formally received into the Akume family, an event that sparked widespread media attention and online reactions.
Earlier reports had stated: “The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has officially wedded Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.”
The announcement was first made via a celebratory Facebook post by Abraham Double-D Dajoh, a member of the Dajoh family, who confirmed the union and welcomed Queen Zaynab into the family in Benue State.
Describing the marriage as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” the Dajoh family expressed joy over what they termed a significant new chapter in the SGF’s household.
“We, the entire Dajoh Family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the post read.
The family also thanked Akume’s political supporters for their loyalty and urged them to continue supporting him.
“We appreciate and thank the fans and supporters of Sen. Akume for always standing by him. We enjoin every one of you to continue to support His Excellency even in this beautiful union with Queen Zaynab,” the statement added.
