Ex-Defence Minister Badaru Denies Claim He Resigned Over Alleged ‘US And Tinubu Bombings’

Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has debunked an online publication alleging that he resigned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet because he “cannot stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.”

Badaru, who resigned earlier in the week, described the viral claim as malicious, false, and completely baseless. He said the statement did not originate from him or from anyone authorised to speak on his behalf.

In a rejoinder on Wednesday, the former minister said the motive behind the publication was to smear his reputation and fuel discord between him and President Tinubu.

“The intent behind this fabrication is clear: to tarnish my hard-earned reputation, sow discord between me and the Commander-in-Chief, and create needless distractions from the important work of governance,” he stated.

Badaru emphasised that the genuine reasons for his resignation were formally communicated to the President and made public through traditional and social media platforms. Any attempt to attribute inflammatory motives to his exit, he said, was a deliberate act of mischief.

Reaffirming his political loyalty, Badaru assured President Tinubu, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerians that he remains committed to the nation’s peace, security, and stability.

He added that his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda and the APC’s success—particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections—remains unwavering.
