The Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has debunked widespread rumours claiming that legendary Yoruba actor and cultural icon, Chief Olalere Osunpaimo, popularly known as Baba Eda Onile Ola, has passed away.

In a statement released on Saturday and signed by the ANTP National Public Relations Officer, Adejonwo Oluwafemi, the association clarified that the veteran actor is very much alive and in stable condition.

The group described the rumour as “false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic within the entertainment community and among fans,” urging the public to disregard the unfounded reports.

“Chief Olalere Paimo is alive, healthy, and in good spirits. We strongly condemn the circulation of fake news regarding his wellbeing,” the statement read.

ANTP also appealed to media platforms, bloggers, and social media users to verify information before dissemination, especially concerning matters related to health and death.

The association noted that Baba Eda remains one of the most revered figures in the Yoruba performing arts industry, with decades of contributions to theatre, film, and cultural preservation.

“We call on the public to continue to pray for the longevity and good health of Baba Eda, a living legend whose works have enriched our cultural heritage,” the statement added.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate updates on issues affecting its members and the broader creative community.
