DSS Invites Datti Baba-Ahmed Over Alleged Inciteful Remarks Against the Nigerian State

The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited the founder of Baze University Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, over remarks the agency considers inciting and potentially dangerous to national stability, a top security source has confirmed.

According to the source, the DSS has been monitoring a series of public statements recently made by Baba-Ahmed on television and other media platforms, particularly his repeated claims that Nigeria is facing a “constitutional crisis.”

“A few days ago, Baba-Ahmed was on national television blaming the judiciary and the military for allowing the swearing-in of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima,” the source said. “He even went as far as suggesting that the swearing-in emboldened the military to ‘look you in the face and call you bloody fools.’”

Security officials reportedly consider such comments inflammatory, warning that they contain undertones capable of heightening national tension in an already sensitive political climate. The source noted that reckless rhetoric has played a significant role in destabilizing countries like Guinea-Bissau and several other states.

“I believe the secret police is treating his comments with caution. This has nothing to do with politics,” the insider said. “But the corporate existence of our nation could be threatened if such rhetoric is allowed to fester.”

The source also referenced Baba-Ahmed’s criticism of the judiciary and military for allegedly being “complacent” in not stopping the inauguration of President Tinubu’s administration—comments described as particularly worrisome given their potential to erode public trust in core state institutions.

Additionally, his recent assertion that government efforts to strengthen national security were a “joke” is said to have raised concerns that such statements could agitate public sentiment and weaken confidence in ongoing reforms.

According to the source, the DSS invitation is in line with standard preventive protocols, aimed not at punishment but at engaging Baba-Ahmed to clarify his intentions, contextualize his comments, and ensure they are not misinterpreted in ways that could fuel unrest.

“These sessions are not punitive,” he emphasized. “They are preventive—intended to forestall narratives that could unintentionally escalate tensions in the country.”
