President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sadness over the passing of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing the news as a deeply painful loss to the nation.

The revered cleric, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 101, was widely respected as the leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood and a guiding moral force in Nigeria’s religious landscape.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, the President mourned Sheikh Bauchi as a “moral compass” who devoted his life to teaching, preaching, and shaping generations through his scholarship and spiritual leadership.

President Tinubu noted that the loss is monumental—not only to the late Sheikh’s family and countless followers, but to Nigeria as a whole. He recalled the prayers, blessings, and moral support he personally received from Sheikh Bauchi during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.

“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a distinguished exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he championed peace, piety, and tolerance. His death leaves a void that will be profoundly felt,” the President said.
