The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 of Nigeria’s Unity Colleges.
According to a circular issued on Friday, the decision follows “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”
The closure, the circular stated, was approved by Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education.
The document was signed by Binta Abdulkadir, director of senior secondary education, on behalf of the minister.
Principals of the affected schools have been directed to ensure full compliance with the order.
