IN HONOUR OF GENERAL M. UBA: A Nation Mourns, A Nation Resolves

Olabode Opeseitan
General Musa Uba’s sacrifice is not merely a loss. It is a solemn act of devotion, courageously laid down in pursuit of peace and national stability.
His death is a haunting yet hallowed reminder of the perils faced by those who choose the path of service in defence of Nigeria.
In this hour of collective grief, we extend our deepest condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the bereaved family of General Uba, the leadership of our military, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the resilient people of this nation. We mourn not just a gallant officer, but a symbol of duty, courage, and the unyielding spirit that defines Nigeria’s military tradition.
His tragic demise at the hands of terrorists is a sobering moment. It reminds us of the daily dangers our uniformed protectors confront. Every second, they stake their lives against tides of internal and external aggression, standing as sentinels between chaos and our collective future.
SALUTING COURAGE, COUNTING THE COST
From the dense forests of Sambisa to the rugged hills of Gwoza, from Damboa to Kebbi, and across the Mandara Mountains, our gallant officers have taken the battle to the strongholds of terror. They have not only confronted evil, they have often triumphed over it.
In these troubled hotspots, our soldiers continue to comb rough terrain, forests, valleys, and remote villages, risking everything as the constitutional guardians of our liberty. In just the past two and a half years, over ten thousand insurgents and bandits have been neutralized, and nearly five thousand captured through relentless operations and intelligence-led strikes. These are not just statistics. They are the evidence of profound sacrifice, strategy, and sheer will.
THE MIGHT OF AIRPOWER, THE PROMISE OF PEACE
There is hope, a flicker that refuses to die in the heart of every patriot. Recent footage and field reports show the Nigerian Air Force executing precision strikes over Sambisa, raining justice from the skies upon the dens of terror. These coordinated efforts, air and ground, are not just tactical victories. They are signs that Nigeria is reclaiming her peace, inch by inch, soul by soul. Yet, we know that true peace can only come from God.
DEFENDING HONOUR, EVEN IN SORROW
Even in the wake of profound loss, there are voices that seek to diminish the memory of General Uba. Let no one downplay the magnitude of his sacrifice. Let no bitterness desecrate the altar of his courage. Instead, may this moment serve as a rallying cry to honour all the fallen, to defend their legacy, and to recommit ourselves to the ideals for which they died.
General Musa Uba was not just a soldier. He was a presence. A man of composure and conviction. “Someone you’d easily notice in the crowd but surely wouldn’t miss out if you stayed a moment longer,” said his coursemate, Wing Commander Musa Salmanu.
That strength of character, that quiet force, defined his leadership. He was jovial, down to earth, and deeply concerned about the welfare of his subordinates. He survived countless battles, but not this last one. And in that final act, he became a mirror for our national conscience.
VICTORY IS ASSURED
Let it be known: no force of terror can extinguish the Nigerian spirit. We are a people forged in adversity, refined by struggle, and destined for triumph. Nigeria’s resilience is not a slogan. It is the inheritance.
To the Armed Forces of Nigeria: we see you. We honour you. We stand with you. Never in history has darkness prevailed over light.
To the family of General Uba: your grief is our grief. Your pride is our pride. May the nation show its gratitude morally, financially and spiritually, not only to General Uba’s family, but to all servicemen who fell in the line of duty.
To the people of Nigeria: let us rise, not in despair, but in defiance of fear. Let us speak with one voice. Nigeria will prevail.
Victory is assured. The Nigerian spirit cannot be broken.
Whatever you are, a uniformed man, a civilian, a leader, even a terrorist, just for a moment, set aside your differences and think about what you represent by your deeds. Is it darkness or light, good or evil? Think about what you will tell your Lord on the day of judgment. Will it be said of you, “well done, good and faithful servant” or will it be damnation and condemnation?
