The lawmaker representing Ifako/Ijaiye Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Temitope Adedeji aka ATA, has said that the need to make life better for the indigents was the reason for supporting 500 widows in the constituency with food items and N20,000 each.

Hon. Adedeji, who spoke at the 5th Edition of the programme tagged; “Widows Empowerment Initiative and Financial Support in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1” on Monday November 10, 2025 at the Unity Centre, Ajuwon Road, said that the programme is meant to make life better for women, who have lost their husbands.

While saying that he was happy to see the beneficiaries, Hon. Adedeji promised that to continue to give back to the people that voted him into office, while urging them to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I am happy to see you all because I know it’s not easy. I am the husband of widows. We have promised you that we will continue to give back to those of you that voted for us into office. We are doing it to show that we learned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We have been told to go back home to enrich the grassroots and there is no better way than to reach the widows. We are giving out foodstuffs and N20,000 each to 500 widows.

“Our intention is very simple, we must continue to give back to the people and give them succour. President Bola Tinubu is trying to make Nigeria better and he is doing a wonderful job. He has done policies that are affecting the growth of the country positively. We must continue to support him,” he said.

The lawmaker however, enjoined the women to go for the health insurance provided by the state government.

He said; “We will give you free health insurance today. If you have and it has expired, register your name, we will renew it for you. If you have before, don’t register again or else it will affect the system.

“Just bring your number and slip if it has expired. As a representative of the people, I believe what is important is representation and the widows are our mothers. We will try our best to continue to give back to them. I understand the plight of widows and I believe that we need to support them.”

In his speech, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifako/Ijaye, Deacon Banjo Omole, said that they have always careful before sponsoring people into offices, and that Hon. Adedeji has been doing much since he got into the Assembly.

Deacon Omole stated that, when he calculated the money the lawmaker was giving out, he discovered that it’s a lot, and that some people would have pocketed such money.

“Hon Adedeji would continue to make progress for doing this for the people. I have been praying for him for what he is doing. He is doing well. He did not disappoint us in Lagos State and even in Nigeria. I was in the House of Assembly during a public hearing on transportation, where other lawmakers commended him. He has been doing a lot for students, elders and even the party. On October 1, he invited me for what he wanted to do for the party. The main thing is for us to have voters’ cards so that we can vote during elections,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ifako/Ijaiye, Pastor Samuel Opajobi said that Hon. Adedeji is doing what others are not doing, and that he is making the people happy, while urging the people to continue to pray for him.

“This is the fifth edition and the mode of the sharing is very good; he involves the community, the Christians and the Muslims. The people should keep on hoping on God and keep praying for Hon. Temitope Adedeji. We expect the people to get their PVCs and vote for the APC and for Hon. Adedeji.

“I want to advise the government to be ready to support the less privileged in the society. Lagos Staten Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has actually been doing that for the people,” he said.

In his comment, the representative of Ifako/Ijaiye Stakeholders, Comrade Olurotimi Adeleye, thanked God for what Hon Temitope Adedeji has been doing, saying that he is doing it all over the local government, and not just the constituency.

Hon. Adeleye then urged the people to pray for him in their closets that nothing should stop him and that God should remove all hindrances in his way.

The Oba elect of the area, HRM Oba Gbolahan Matthew Ogundimu, said in his comment that it is obvious that the people are not happy to lose their husbands, but that the lawmaker is their son, saying that they will continue to benefit from him.

“The only thing is that he has been doing well in Ifako/Ijaiye. It is bad that some people are sponsoring other politicians against him for the next election. This is not good at all. He has been taking care of us, so we don’t need to work against him so that we can make progress.

“Hon. Temitope Adedeji is doing well and we want him to come back. He is humble and generous. He has been facilitating infrastructure into the area and he is helping the people. We have never had such a representative in Ifako/Ijaiye, we will continue to support him and give him a third term. Even if he wants to go for more terms, we will follow him because we want him back,” he said.

A beneficiary of the empowerment, Mrs Abosede Duduyemi, thanked Hon. Adedeji for the gesture, saying that last time, he gave them N10,000 each, and that the latest is N20,000 each and that the food stuff are more this time aroun.

She then promised that they would continue to support the lawmaker to go into office the third term, while praying that God will continue to help him.

Mrs Grace Akingbehin, another beneficiary, said that she has been living in Iju area for over 40 years and has been in politics for more than 30 years, but that Hon. Adedeji is doing better than others.

Guests at the event included the Leader of the House of Ifako Ijaye LG, Hon. Samuel Kayode, the Leader of Ajumose Group, Engineer Jacob Dada, Woman Leader of the party in the area, Alhaja Olayinka Fetuga, representative of CAN, Deaconess Olufunke Akinyemi, representative of Ifako Ijaye Muslim Community, Alhaji Ganiyu Ajadi, Mandate Group Leader, Hon.
