From The Pulpit To The Altar: How God Chose My Wife- Pastor Nathaniel Bassey

Do you know how I met and married my wife? It happened through the voice of God.

Let me share that story especially my wife’s unforgettable part in it.

At the time, she had been on a one-month fast. The theme of that fast in her church was “Two Are Better Than One.” During that period, she already had an inward conviction — a quiet witness in her spirit that I was her husband.

But she needed a clearer sign. She prayed, “Lord, this is my life. Give me something very specific, something I can hold on to.”

On the final day of the fast, she went to church determined to hear from God. Just before the service began, she whispered another simple prayer:
“God, in this service, speak his name to me twice.”

That was her request short, bold, and full of faith.

As the worship flowed and the Word came forth, a pastor stepped up to read the Scripture for the day. Looking up at the media screen, he said, “Let’s read from Isaiah 64.”

But when he opened his mouth to read, something unusual happened. He said, “And Jesus saw Nathaniel standing under the fig tree…”

Everyone looked confused. The verse wasn’t from Isaiah. The pastor paused, smiled awkwardly, and said, “Oh, I’m sorry. That’s not the text.” Then he asked everyone to read again.

Now, remember my wife had asked God to speak my name twice.

So the pastor started again, “Let’s read together… and Jesus saw Nathaniel standing…”

Once more, he repeated the same thing. Then he stopped and said, “I believe this is a word for someone here.”

That was it. God had spoken twice.

The confirmation she had asked for came directly from the pulpit. Heaven had declared it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

That was how the Lord wrote our love story not by guesswork, not by pressure, but by His unmistakable voice.

And today, whenever I look at my wife and our journey together, I am reminded of one thing: God still speaks, and His word never fails.

As Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

You too can trust Him to lead you from the pulpit to your altar of destiny.
