Tinubu Vows To Crush Terrorism Despite Political Storms, Dismisses Foreign ‘Christian Persecution’ Claims

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to defeating terrorism and ensuring a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria—despite what he described as “political headwinds.”

Speaking on Thursday after receiving an economic briefing from Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Tinubu stressed that his government remains resolute in its pursuit of national stability, peace, and prosperity.

“Despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we continue to engage our partners,” the President said. “We are engaging the world diplomatically. I assure you all that we will defeat terrorism. The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose, guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda, to build a prosperous Nigeria.”

Tinubu’s assurance comes amid rising international tension following comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently threatened possible military action against Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians.

Over the weekend, Trump reportedly instructed the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible action” and re-designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” for what he termed “systematic persecution of Christians.”

Before Trump’s remarks, some U.S. lawmakers had urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to impose diplomatic sanctions on Nigeria over the same allegations.

In response, the Nigerian government has dismissed the claims as baseless, asserting that there are no state-sanctioned or systematic religious killings in the country.
