Police in Lagos have launched a manhunt after a black 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, with registration number WTO 21 AM, was stolen at gunpoint in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025, on Akin-Olugbade Street, Victoria Island.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 12:00 midnight when a gang of four armed men accosted the driver, forced him out of the vehicle at gunpoint, and sped off with the luxury SUV.

The robbers reportedly fired a warning shot into the air to scare away passersby before escaping through the Ozumba Mbadiwe axis. The driver, who sustained minor injuries after initially resisting the attackers, was later treated by nearby residents.

The stolen vehicle — a black metallic 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 with Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): 4JGFB4FB8SB274117 — features factory-fitted tinted windows, a brown leather interior, LED headlamps, AMG alloy wheels, and a chrome front grille.

Confirming the incident, a senior officer from the Victoria Island Police Division said a full-scale investigation and search operation had been launched.

“The Lagos State Police Command has activated joint patrols involving anti-robbery, surveillance, and intelligence units. All exit routes from Victoria Island are under strict monitoring,” the officer said.

The vehicle has been placed on both the Lagos State and national security watchlists, with alerts sent to checkpoints, border posts, and vehicle registration authorities.

Police have urged members of the public, car dealers, and auto technicians to be on the lookout for any vehicle matching the description and to report sightings to the nearest police station or through the emergency hotlines 112 and 767.

The robbery has sparked renewed concern among residents and business owners in Victoria Island over the rising cases of late-night attacks. Community leaders have called for improved street lighting, increased night patrols, and closer collaboration between security agencies and private estate guards.

As of press time, investigations were ongoing, with police assuring the public that efforts were in top gear to recover the stolen SUV and apprehend the suspects.
