Comrade Fred Akinuli, the Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate in the November 16, 2024, Ondo State election, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside members of the party’s executive.

This move marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

Akinuli, a founding member of AA, cited his appointment as Deputy Director-General of the Progressives Network for Tinubu (PNT) and the support of two former AA state chairmen, Engr. Akintan Michael and Engr. Chief William Ogunleye, as reasons for his defection.

They have endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the APC.

According to Akinuli, all ward chairmen, local government executives, and members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of AA in Ondo State have also joined the APC.

The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to announce the formal merger with the ruling party soon.

Welcoming the new members, APC State Chairman Engr. Ade Adetimehin congratulated them on joining the “progressive family” and encouraged them to contribute to the party’s growth.

The APC leaders present, including Mrs. Atinuke Akadiri, Woman Leader, Akoko North East LG, and Hon. Olumuyiwa Asagunla, Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, expressed confidence in the party’s unity and predicted a strong showing in future elections.

The group is supported by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Pastor Olumide Obadele, Director-General of the Progressives Network for Tinubu, pledged to deliver over one million votes for the party in future elections, further solidifying the APC’s grassroots dominance.
