Property Magnate, Olu Okeowo, Banned By Lagos Polo Club Over Staff Assault

In a rare disciplinary move that has reverberated through Lagos’ high society, the prestigious Lagos Polo Club has slammed an indefinite ban on billionaire property mogul, Sir Olu Okeowo, following an alleged assault on one of its staff members by a member of his security detail.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 18, 2025, during the Reminisce Event held at the club’s exclusive Ikoyi grounds. According to the club, a staff member was violently assaulted by one of Okeowo’s security personnel while carrying out his duties.
Confirming the development in an official statement signed by Mr. Adeyemi Oreagba, the club’s Honourable Secretary, the management said the decision was taken after a thorough review of the incident.
“The matter was promptly brought to the attention of the Main Committee, which engaged all parties involved and duly confirmed the occurrence,” the memo read.
“In view of this, the Committee has resolved to ban the guest, Chief Olu Okeowo, from entry into the Club premises, either as a guest or otherwise, until further notice.”
The club emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of assault or disrespect to its staff, noting that the conduct of members, their guests, and domestic aides within the premises is the direct responsibility of the member who brings them.
“Members are reminded that the conduct and actions of their guests, security personnel, domestic staff, and associates within the Club premises remain their responsibility,” the statement continued.
“The Club places great importance on the welfare and dignity of all staff, who are duly empowered to enforce Club policies.”
The ban marks a rare public reprimand of one of Nigeria’s most flamboyant businessmen, known for his opulent lifestyle, lavish properties, and prominent presence at elite social gatherings.
Founded in 1904, the Lagos Polo Club is Africa’s oldest polo institution and remains a bastion of tradition, decorum, and exclusivity. The decisive action against Okeowo is being seen as a message that no status or social standing places anyone above the club’s code of conduct.
As of press time, Sir Okeowo and his representatives had not issued any public response to the ban.
