Senator Smart Adeyemi, former lawmaker and Chairman of the Committee for Kogi APC Mega Endorsement Rally for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo’s second-term bid, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing them of lacking the leadership qualities and statesmanship needed to govern Nigeria.
Speaking at the recent Kogi APC Mega Endorsement Rally for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo’s second-term bid in Lokoja, Adeyemi said Atiku’s political record shows a “divisive and sentimental nature” that has made him unfit to lead the country.
“Atiku lacks statesmanship and should never be trusted to provide leadership for Nigeria due to his divisive political posture and highly sentimental nature.
“His failure to condemn bandit attacks on Hausa and Northern minority communities speaks volumes. Consequently, voters in Kogi and across the North Central region rejected him in 2023 and voted overwhelmingly for President Tinubu instead. The same will happen again in 2027,” Adeyemo declared.
Adeyemi urged Kogi residents to sustain their support for President Tinubu, emphasizing that his administration has provided national healing, fostered unity across ethnic and religious lines, and revitalized the economy, which he said has made all 36 states more financially stable.
Turning his attention to Peter Obi, Adeyemi dismissed the former Anambra governor as a “content creator on a showbiz tour,” arguing that he has no serious leadership credentials. He said Obi’s 2023 campaign largely rode on religious sentiment against the Tinubu/Shettima ticket, which opposition elements falsely portrayed as anti-Christian.
“That sentiment is no longer tenable.
Nigerians have seen that President Tinubu’s inclusive governance has united the country and allayed fears of Christian marginalization.
“Today, both Christians and Muslims hold key positions in his cabinet, proving critics wrong,” ADEYEMI noted
The senator further questioned Obi’s economic depth, contrasting his approach with Tinubu’s.
“President Tinubu is an ‘Automobile Economist’ with transformative and sustainable policies.
“Peter Obi’s brand of economics is that of a ‘Spare Part Economist’—quick fixes that cannot stand the test of time,” Adeyemo said.
Adeyemi also praised the growing acceptance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) among the Igbo, noting that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding positive results for traders and business owners across the South East.
Senator Adeyemi appealed to Nigerians to keep faith with President Tinubu beyond 2027, stressing that continuity is essential for sustaining the economic and social progress being recorded under the current administration.
