The communique reads, “Our decision to support Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide for another term in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections must not be misinterpreted as an action against the interests or aspirations of Mopamuro Local Government Area. On the contrary, it is a strategic and forward-looking decision taken in the overall interest of our people and the stability of Yagba Federal Constituency. We believe that strengthening political cooperation and strategic alignment among the three Local Government Areas, Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West, is essential for attracting greater democratic dividends and enhancing our collective voice at the national level.
According to the group, its support is rooted in the desire to consolidate the unity of the constituency and ensure that Mopamuro remains an integral partner in the shared progress of Yagba land.
“Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has grown steadily in stature, credibility and legislative influence within the Green Chamber of the National Assembly. Legislative effectiveness is not built overnight; it’s cultivated through experience, institutional knowledge, relationships and sustained presence within the system.
The group maintained that as of today, Rt. Hon. Abejide commands a level of respect and influence that places Yagba Federal Constituency in a stronger position within the National Assembly. “Allowing him to continue will ensure that the constituency fully benefits from the networks, legislative groundwork and national goodwill he has built over time.
“Continuity at this stage will translate into stronger advocacy for our constituency, increased access to federal opportunities and greater impact through legislation and policy engagement.
“The people of Mopamuro have keenly observed the representation of Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide and can confidently attest to his commitment to the welfare and development of Yagba Federal Constituency.
“His tenure has been marked by purposeful engagement with constituents, facilitation of projects and programs, empowerment initiatives and a visible commitment to improving the lives of the people he represents.
“It’s therefore our firm position that Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has performed creditably and deserves the continued confidence and support of the people.”
The Mopamuro Progress Group noted that the overwhelming majority of its people stand firmly behind Abejide to continue the good work he has started in the House of Representatives.
“While we support Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide for another term, we also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to fairness, equity and political balance within Yagba Federal Constituency.
While harping on unity in the constituency, the group added, “In the spirit of justice and inclusive representation, we make it clear that after the completion of his next term, the seat of the Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives should rotate to Mopamuro Local Government Area.
“We therefore respectfully call on our brothers and sisters in Yagba East and Yagba West to support this legitimate aspiration when the time comes, just as Mopamuro is demonstrating goodwill, political maturity and commitment to unity today.
“The progress of Yagba Federal Constituency cannot be achieved through division or narrow political interests. It requires unity, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the advancement of our people.
“We therefore call on all political leaders, traditional rulers, youth organisations, women groups and stakeholders across Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West to continue to work together in the spirit of brotherhood and collective progress. History teaches us that communities that prioritize unity and strategic cooperation always achieve greater political and developmental outcomes.
“As Mopamuro people, we’re proud to stand for unity today while securing our rightful place in the future political architecture of Yagba Federal Constituency. Together, we shall continue to build a stronger, more influential and more prosperous Yagba land.”
