2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS: IT IS BETTER HERE THAN THERE

Let us accept the fact that quite a large number of the APC grassroot structures are not happy about the current turn of events for one reason or the other. It will amount to hypocrisy and sycophancy of the highest order to deny the fact that what we are getting is never what anybody contemplated, strictly speaking.

Having said that, we must know that the act of politics, worldwide, pre and post elections is like the movement of a chameleon. As it moves, alongside different objects, so the colour changes. At a point, it can pick your colour. That is when you are enjoying the ovation of the moment, with one political patronage or the other.

You are either appointed as the chief of staff, the minister, the Special Adviser, CEO of one government agency, the Ambassador or even the biggest government contractor. You are the child of the moment. You may be lucky to enjoy the full patronage till the end of the tenure. You may equally be unlucky to be pushed out of the bus by the highway while the vehicle is still on motion.

At another times, the chameleon can take another colour. That is when you are left behind or abandoned while favouring another person. There is nothing that is assured in the assurance of politics and reward expectation. When it faces you, embrace it. When it backs, pat it. Just make sure you are not left behind.

The truth is, in 2027 general elections, a lot of APC progressives will still repeat their actions and give their unalloyed supports for the party and its candidates as they did in 2023. They may do what they will have to do, not because they are happy doing it or are doing it on true conviction for an assured and deliverable good governance (or personal reward), they will be doing so because there is no alternative. They will rather choose to consolidate their hard work and hope on God’s favour than to use their own legs to demolish the house they built with their own hands.

Besides, what is the better alternative? The so-called alternative is to the best of our patriotic assessment even worst. People will rather continue with the “evil” that they know than romancing the “angel” they can’t vouch for.

Not everybody has a floating and chameleonic principle that they will be jumping from one political party or candidate to another for political favour. A lot of progressives are so principled that they will rather remain where they are, in silence, than lose their integrity to desperation.

There will be zero wisdom in the adoption of political ideology for anybody to take seriously some of these people currently gathering to take power from the current leadership. Yoruba will say “one canine spoilt the dog’s teeth”. That canine can’t even bite in honour.

Any coalition formed on the altar of self interest is not a patriotic coalition and that cannot in its true conscience attract the buying in of sophisticatedly smart Nigerians. We are too smart for any political cunningness even when such is hidden under ethnic and religious flags. The house built with saliva will be pulled down by ordinary dew.

No matter what the colour of the skin the child of 2027 general elections will be born with, we will rather prefer to stay with this APC pregnancy of hope than to gamble on the infertility of the “coalition”. Their own labour room has never produced anything good child than siamese twins. I am not even contemplating it. This message is for all the doubting Thomases – it is better here than there.

As a nation and her people, we rely solely on God to determine the best for us. Unless otherwise the decision is taken by God the other way round, the status quo will be retained till 2031. God spare our lives.
