2023: IBB Denies Commenting On Obasanjo’s Endorsement of Peter Obi On Social Media

The Media office of a former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (GCFR) aka IBB, has denied a social media report, where he was quoted to have said that former president Olusegun Obasanjo will forever be a true elder statesman and a boss in the military, apparently over Obasanjo’s recent endorsement of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 General Elections, Mr. Peter Obi.

While denying the several twitter handles and social media report purportedly owned by the former Military President, the media office stated that it is ridiculous for IBB to have been quoted to have said that “No serving General in Nigerian Army today joined the military earlier than 1982. By then Obasanjo had finished his military career. I respect him a lot, with his endorsement.”

The office made reference to a statement issued on February 19, 2019, where they stated categorically that IBB did not operate any social media platform, saying that the situation still suffices, adding that the “fake report is the handiwork of the enemies of Nigeria that are hell bent on causing disaffection and heating up the polity.

“We wish to inform members of the public, particularly members of the social media community, that General Babangida currently has no twitter handle or any Social media platform.

“Also, we wish to state categorically therefore, that the twitter handles bearing the name and photographs of General Babangida are fake and targeted at misleading unsuspecting members of the public.

“Accordingly, we wish to advise all members of the social media community and the general public to be wary of the fake accounts, mischievous online news and discountenance whatever message conveyed therein,” the statement read then.

The office then warned those behind “such reports to have a rethink and stop concocting reports about the respected elder statesman or risk legal actions.”
