The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has been presented with Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Gov Abiodun, who arrived Magbon, Abeokuta Headquarters of the electoral body in company of his Deputy, Eng. Noimot Salako-Oyedele and 25 newly elected members of the State House of Assembly, attributed his victory at the Governorship poll to the Almighty God and the benevolence of the people of Ogun State.

According to Governor Abiodun, “the mandate is a call to a renewed hope, not just for Ogun State, but the entire nation. I will continue with people-oriented programmes that will make life abundant for the people.”

Extending his hands of fellowship to his opponents, he said, “now that the election has come and gone, I call on my opponents to come and join hands with our administration to build the future of the state together.”

The Governor also appreciated the brilliant performance of the security agencies and the entire staff of the electoral commission for working tirelessly to ensure peaceful elections in Ogun State.

In his address at the ceremony, the INEC National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Ogun, Osun and Ondo States, Prof Adekunle Ajayi, said that the presentation was in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, Section 72, which stipulated that certificates should be issued to within 14 days after the elections, noting that lessons were learnt in the course of conducting the elections.

He added that these would be turned into working documents to serve as the standard for subsequent elections.

“This will make the electoral body to be one of the best electoral umpires in the world,” he said.
