A woman attempting to smuggle cocaine concealed in her private parts, stomach, and handbag has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Port Harcourt International Airport, as part of a nationwide crackdown that led to the arrest of multiple drug traffickers and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics.

The suspect, Ihensekhien Miracle Obehi, was intercepted on Sunday, May 3, while trying to board a Qatar Airways flight to Iran via Doha. Disguised in a hijab in an effort to evade detection, she was found with three wraps of cocaine hidden in her private part, two parcels concealed in her handbag, and had ingested 67 pellets of the substance.

She was placed under observation and later expelled all swallowed pellets, revealing a total of 2.523 kilograms of cocaine in various forms. Obehi confessed that she had intended to ingest 70 pellets but resorted to hiding the remaining three after reaching her limit.

In another significant arrest, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on May 9 intercepted 22-year-old British national, Campbell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer. Slifer, a convicted drug trafficker and robber in the UK, was found with 37.6kg of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, packed in two suitcases. He claimed he was recruited in London to collect the shipment in Thailand and deliver it to Nigeria.

Further operations across the country uncovered more drug trafficking attempts. In Niger State, officers seized 3,047 kilograms of skunk from a fuel tanker and three vehicles on the Suleja-Kaduna road, arresting four suspects. In Kano, 775 litres of codeine syrup were recovered from a hideout, while in Lagos, nearly 110,000 pills of tramadol and other controlled substances were confiscated.

Additional seizures included:

  • 52.5kg of skunk in Kaduna State,
  • 45,400 tramadol pills in Kwara State,
  • 505kg of skunk in Bauchi State,
  • 1.1kg of Loud concealed in a pillow from Thailand intercepted at a courier company in Lagos.

NDLEA also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign with sensitization lectures in schools and religious institutions across several states.

NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the efforts of the agency’s commands involved in the week-long operations and urged sustained momentum in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
