Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of diverting N4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) through a controversial programme allegedly handled by Amaechi’s wife.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Wike alleged that the funds were disbursed monthly under the pretext of “training Niger Delta women,” but were siphoned through Amaechi’s wife who was reportedly awarded the contract.

“If the forensic audit report does not show that Amaechi used his wife to collect N4 billion every month from the NDDC in the name of training Niger Delta women, I will resign as FCT Minister,” Wike declared on air.

The former Rivers State governor said the transactions were detailed in the forensic audit of the NDDC, which was commissioned by the Muhammadu Buhari administration in 2019 but never released to the public after its submission in 2021.

Wike further accused former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), of deliberately suppressing the audit report to protect politically exposed persons implicated in the document.

“That report was buried by Malami. He sat on it. The Buhari government refused to act on it because too many of their allies were indicted,” Wike said.

The forensic audit was aimed at uncovering financial mismanagement and abandoned projects within the NDDC from 2001 to 2019. Despite its completion and submission, successive administrations have kept the findings under wraps.

Wike urged President Bola Tinubu to release the report in full, insisting that transparency is necessary to restore public confidence and hold those responsible accountable.

Neither Amaechi nor Malami has responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
