Tears in Court As Police Present Dismembered Remains of Student Killed By Facebook Lover In Kwara”

The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin was gripped by raw emotion as the dismembered body parts of 22-year-old Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal were presented as evidence in the ongoing murder trial of AbdulRahman Bello, a 29-year-old Islamic cleric she reportedly met on Facebook.
Hafsoh, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, was declared missing on February 10 after leaving a naming ceremony abruptly following a phone call. Her mysterious disappearance triggered a frantic search and police investigation, which later led to Bello’s arrest. He allegedly lured the victim to his residence, where she was killed and her body mutilated.
In court, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department presented disturbing exhibits, including human palms, a keg of suspected human blood, a cutlass, an axe, and charms. The victim’s father, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, broke down in tears while identifying his daughter’s remains.
Police say the suspect initially claimed Hafsoh died from an asthma attack, but later confessed to dismembering her body. Four other suspects have also been arraigned in connection with the crime.
The state government, now overseeing the prosecution, has pledged to ensure justice is served. Justice Hannah Ajayi adjourned the case to May 12 for further witness testimonies.
This horrific case has ignited public concern over the dangers of online relationships and the need for greater vigilance, particularly among young Nigerians navigating social media.
