President George Weah’s son jailed in France for reckless partying.

The eldest son of Liberian President George Weah has been given a six-month suspended prison sentence in France for reckless partying.

George Weah Jr. is also accused of disturbing the peace of his neighbours at his home in a posh Paris suburb. The 33-year-old was ordered to pay his neighbours 24,000 dollars in damages.

Weah Junior, a former footballer, was arrested in February at a party in central Paris – violating COVID-19-imposed nationwide curfew.

This has strained diplomatic relations between Liberia and France.

Are financial punishments sufficient deterrent for such persons, considering that they are unlikely to feel the pinch?
