Port-Harcourt Refinery Set To Produce 2.2 Million Liters Of Diesel Daily

On Thursday, the Federal Government announced that the Port-Harcourt Refinery is gearing up to start generating two million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and 2.2 million liters of diesel daily.

The government has also announced that the refinery is currently 80% complete. They have informed that the existing refinery facility will have a production capacity of 54,000 barrels per day. Furthermore, the new plant, which is in its final stages of completion, is expected to commence production by the end of the year.

The information was shared in a communication on Thursday by Olajide Oshundun, who serves as the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Based on the statement, Minister of State Nkeiruka Onyejeocha shared these details following a visit to the facility with labor leaders, explaining that the two plants combined would have the capacity to generate 10 million liters of PMS daily.

“Speaking on the inspection visit to the Port-Harcourt refinery by TUC and Federal Government delegation, the minister said reports by organised labour and government established that the Port-Harcourt refinery is 80% completed.

“She explained that the old plant would begin with 54,000 barrels per day, which would produce two million litres of PMS and 2.2 million litres of diesel per day, while the new plant which is currently going through its last phase of completion would also begin production before the end of the year. The combined capacity of the two plants, when fully on stream, would produce 10 million litres of PMS per day”, the statement read.
