Oyo NSCDC arrests vendors of new naira notes

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, yesterday, paraded 10 people for selling the nation’s currency notes in an operation that lasted two days, across various sites in Ibadan, the state’s capital.

The culprits were paraded at the Commands headquarters Office, Agodi Secretariat road, Ibadan.

They allegedly contravened the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, Section 20, which outlaws counterfeiting, hawking, selling or trade in Naira notes, coins or any other note, issued by the apex bank.

The detainees include, Dotun Wahab (34), Kunle Oladipupo (35), Tijani Abodun (32), Eniola Waheed (22) and Olanrewaju Adepoju (35).

Others are Obisesan Olalekan (31), Gbenga Omowaye (40), Samson Ojewola (24), Akintola Gboyega (37) and Anifat Abiodun (38).

Over N1 million fresh banknotes, comprising various denominations, were recovered from the suspects.

The State Commandant, John Adewoye, said investigations have commenced on the matter, to ascertain the source of the new naira notes.
