A former Commissioner for Special Duties, Culture and Tourism in Ondo State, Hon. Femi Adekanmbi has congratulated the Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on the approval of the Ondo Sea Port by the federal government.

The federal executive council (FEC) gave approval for the operating licence of the port, at a meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja.

Adekanmbi in a statement signed by him, said he received the news of Port Ondo with great enthusiasm.

He stated that Ondo State has been on the project since 2004, during the Olusegun Agagu days, when the state tried to establish a seaport around the Olokola Free Trade Zone. But through the sheer doggedness and tenacity of the Governor, and the hardworking Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, we have finally break the rubicon.

He added that the Port Ondo has placed the state on the path of accelerated development.

“The state within a few years from now will compete favourably with Lagos in terms of revenue and massive industrialization as the port will open up the state and place it on world map as investment destination in Africa.

The huge job opportunities for professionals and other ancillary services for our teeming population will further expand the economic fortunes of the state”, Adekanmbi said.

“Ports facilitate the movement of goods and services between markets, reducing transport costs and enhancing efficiency. It can also enable the diversification of export products, the attraction of foreign direct investment, and the integration into regional and global value chains.

The seaports in Ondo State have the advantage of boosting the nation’s economy. It will multiply economic and commercial activities in specific areas apart from the revenue being generated for the government”, he stated
