Wow. What a moment of honour for Nigeria and for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu! A full state visit hosted by King Charles III is not a ceremonial courtesy; it is a diplomatic validation from the British monarchy and the British government, a signal that Nigeria has re-entered the global stage with credibility and momentum.
When Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, the economic picture was bleak. Financial analysts described an economy on life support: net foreign reserves hovering around crisis levels, rising debt obligations, deteriorating infrastructure, and a collapse of investor confidence. The global markets had effectively priced Nigeria out of optimism. The country was drifting toward a future defined by scarcity and stalled ambition.
Less than three years later, the turnaround is unmistakable. Through painful but necessary reforms, Tinubu stabilised the macroeconomic environment, restored a measure of fiscal discipline, and reopened Nigeria to global capital. The world’s most respected institutions have acknowledged the scale and speed of the intervention. And now, Britain, historically cautious in its diplomatic signalling, has placed the red carpet, the carriage procession, the guard of honour, and the full machinery of state protocol at Nigeria’s feet.
It is worth imagining the counterfactual. Had Nigeria continued its downward spiral, the consequences would not have been local. A destabilised Nigeria would have reverberated across West Africa, the Commonwealth, and the global economy. Instead, the country is being received as a partner, not a problem; as a nation capable of renewal, not collapse.
There is still work ahead. But today, congratulations are in order to the President, the First Family, and to every Nigerian whose resilience made this moment possible. #Nigeria
