The Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. John Asein, has applauded the signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Ltd/Gte (MCSN) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), describing it as a milestone in strengthening copyright compliance across Nigeria’s broadcast industry.

The agreement, which ushers in a new era of cooperation, transparency, and accountability, is aimed at ensuring the lawful use of musical works and sound recordings on broadcast platforms. It also provides a clear framework for efficient licensing and equitable royalty payments, guaranteeing that music creators are fairly compensated for their intellectual property while broadcasters operate within the provisions of the Copyright Act 2022.

Dr. Asein commended both MCSN and BON for their commitment to fostering a culture of respect for intellectual property rights. He noted that the MoU represents “a strong assurance to Nigeria’s music and creative industry,” adding that it lays the foundation for a more vibrant and harmonious entertainment ecosystem.

He further emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the Federal Government’s policy to harness the creative sector as a key driver of national economic growth.

In their joint statement, MCSN and BON reaffirmed their dedication to promoting innovation, encouraging lawful content use, and deepening stakeholder collaboration for the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s creative economy.
