Man Bags Three-Month Jail Term for Illegal Refuse Dumping in Lagos

In a bid to enforce environmental laws and promote cleaner surroundings, a man has been sentenced to three months in prison for illegally dumping refuse along the Lekki Expressway.
The suspect was apprehended on Monday by enforcement authorities and swiftly arraigned the following day before a Magistrate Court sitting in Oshodi. The court found him guilty of environmental offences and handed down the three-month sentence.
The development was made public by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.
“Following the arrest of this suspect yesterday at Lekki Expressway for dumping refuse on the road, he was arraigned today before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi, found guilty and sentenced to 3 months in prison,” Wahab stated.
The Lagos State Government has repeatedly warned residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining environmental cleanliness across the state.
