A 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem from the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, tragically drowned after reportedly consuming a hard drug known as “Colo” (Colorado) and jumping into a well on Friday, shortly after attending Eid prayers.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at Alapo Compound in Edun, where Kazeem, allegedly under the influence of the substance, leapt into a domestic well.

The Kwara State Fire Service was alerted around 10:29 a.m. and promptly deployed a rescue team to the scene. In a statement released on Saturday, the Service’s spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident.

“Our firefighters responded swiftly and recovered the lifeless body of the victim from the well,” Adekunle stated, adding that Kazeem was believed to have taken “Colo” shortly before the incident.

The body was subsequently handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ilorin. Authorities are awaiting formal identification and claim of the corpse by Kazeem’s family.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, used the opportunity to warn the public about the dangers of drug abuse, stressing that the misuse of hard substances continues to lead to tragic and preventable losses.
