As Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day on June 12, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, has called on citizens to deepen their commitment to democratic values by actively engaging in the nation’s political process.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dave Agboola, Speaker Obasa praised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as transformative strides that continue to inspire hope and progress across the country.

He highlighted President Tinubu’s efforts in enhancing national security, advancing economic growth, and promoting grassroots empowerment. “This day serves as a powerful reminder of our collective journey toward a just, inclusive, and resilient democracy,” Obasa said, reflecting on the symbolism of June 12 in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Encouraging Lagos residents to remain steadfast in democratic ideals, the Speaker stressed the importance of public participation in governance. “Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria, and every citizen has a vital role to play. Your voice matters, your vote matters,” he declared.

With local government elections approaching in Lagos State, Obasa also urged widespread support for all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, describing such support as crucial to sustaining progress and delivering good governance. “By electing capable representatives, we are investing in the future and ensuring that the gains of democracy reach every corner of our state,” he stated.

He further underscored the need for unity, active engagement, and shared responsibility in consolidating Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

In his concluding remarks, Obasa appealed to Lagosians to continue backing the current administration, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to fulfil democratic promises and improve the well-being of every citizen.
