International Archives Week 2025 Kicks Off With Energy And Insight

The global archival community is buzzing with excitement as International Archives Week 2025 officially begins and Nigeria is right at the heart of it. This year, the Society of Nigerian Archivists (SNA) is rolling out an exciting program that blends tradition with innovation, under the timely theme: #ArchivesAreAccessible.
From powerful conversations to interactive sessions, SNA’s 2025 celebration promises to be more than just a series of events — it’s a call to action for greater access, inclusion, and relevance in the world of archives.
Kicking off the week was a radio program aired yesterday, Monday, June 9, by the North West regional group of the Society. Broadcast in both English and Hausa, the segment brought archival awareness to diverse audiences across the region. The discussions focused on how archives connect our past, present, and future—and why accessibility is key in today’s world.
The week’s main event arrives on Wednesday, June 11, with a Round Table Session featuring thought leaders and professionals in the archival and information management space. Expect:
- Candid Q&A sessions with respected industry figures
- Engaging opinion discussions on topical issues
- A blend of fun and professionalism
- Insights into access control, digital transformation, inclusion, and the evolving role of archives
This hybrid event allows members across Nigeria to join from anywhere, physically or virtually. For those in Lagos, you’re invited to join in person:
Venue: The MAC Centre, 14 Babatunde Street, off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos
Time: 10:00 AM prompt
Virtual participants can expect to receive access details
A Celebration of Community and Progress
“This week is not just a celebration—it’s a movement. Archives matter, and accessibility means ensuring everyone, everywhere, can engage with their history and information,” said one of the event organizers.
From radio waves to roundtables, this year’s events aim to open up conversations, unlock access, and showcase the vibrancy of Nigeria’s archival community.
So whether you’re a seasoned professional, a curious student, or just passionate about preserving stories, International Archives Week 2025 offers a moment to reflect, engage, and celebrate.
