The immediate past governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam is in the news for the wrong reason. The top politician was said to have recently physically assaulted his pretty wife, Yemisi, at their London home some days ago to the chagrin of those, who are close to him.
It was learnt that the former number one citizen of the North Central state, who relocated to the UK after his eight years tenure as governor, beat his wife silly over a heated argument bothering on his alleged mistress, Shidoo.
For those who may not know, the former governor was rumoured to be in a hot romance with Shidoo, who is said to be in her 20s, while in office.
The very charming lady was the woman who reportedly had the keys to the heart of Suswam. In fact, most people were said to have shifted attention to her, and abandoned the former First Lady, who the people of the state said was too rigid.
It was Shidoo who we learnt always took messages from the governor’s kinsmen to him and she was reportedly loved by the people of Benue for this.
First Weekly gathered that the former First Lady was in the know of the secret romance between her husband and Shidoo, but she felt that she would have her man to herself alone after the expiration of his term as governor. But she was wrong as the young lady reportedly still occupies a big place in Suswam’s heart.
An argument reportedly ensued between the husband and wife at their London home some days ago and the former governor was said to have lost his cool and pounced on his wife mercilessly, inflicting injuries on her in the process.
It was reported that the ex-First Lady quickly called the police, who came to arrest her husband and charged him to court for assault.
Suswam was reportedly kept in detention for hours before he was released on bail.
First Weekly learnt that relations of Yemisi are pressuring her to press charges against her husband, who could spend six months in jail if found guilty.
Meanwhile, the former governor has denied beating his wife.
In a Facebook post last Thursday, Suswam said, “dear friends, my attention has been drawn to news making the rounds on social media that I was arrested in London last week (two weeks ago).
“That report is full of mischief and it is aimed at slandering me and my dear wife. Disregard any news about a squabble between me and my dear wife. We’re fine, enjoy your day. Thanks you. GTS.”
