Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Malami made the announcement in a signed statement released on Tuesday, in which he attributed his decision to “deep personal reflection” and concern for the state of the nation, rather than any form of personal ambition or grievance.

“This is not a decision made out of anger or ambition, but one inspired by love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing daily,” he stated.

Citing the growing insecurity, economic hardship, and poor governance in the country, Malami accused the APC-led government of neglecting the needs of the people and placing politics above national interest.

“Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes, especially in the North. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritizes politics over the safety of its citizens,” he said.

He lamented the rising cost of living, unemployment, and the erosion of public trust in the system, saying the government has abandoned governance in favor of political survival.

Malami described his new party, the ADC, as a platform rooted in justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal. He said the party represents a coalition determined to “rescue the country from further decline.”

“To the people of Kebbi State, I remain your son and servant. I will never abandon you. This move is to amplify your voice, protect your interests, and restore hope to our future,” he assured.

Malami called on Nigerians across the country to join the movement for national rebirth, urging them to rise above fear and reclaim the country’s future
