Controversy is currently trailing the alleged purchase of three luxurious houses by the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.

The communication minister, who was appointed by President Muhammad Buhari in 2019, allegedly bought the three Houses in Wuse area of Abuja for his three wives.

An online media had alleged that the minister is living large, and that his extravagant lifestyle is questionable.

The allegation was said to be against the anti-corruption stance of the Federal Government and the matter has sincebelicited negative responses from concerned members of the public.

Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has however denied the report.

In a rebuttal signed by his spokesperson, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman, on Friday, July 3, 2020, the Minister said that he has not bought any single property anywhere in the world since the period he became minister.

The reaction was contained in a press statement entitled; “Minister Pantami Has Not Purchased A Single House Anywhere In The World Since Assumption Of Office.”

Suleiman said in the statement that one of the apartments in the images published is one which the “Honourable Minister has occupied since January 2017, more than two years before becoming a minister, while the other one is a house he rented since 17th December, 2019. Two of the images are not even known to him.”

It was added in the statement that as a serving minister, Dr. Pantami’s salaries and allowances fall below his earnings as a Professor at the International University Madinah, Saudi Arabia, where he is said to still holds the record of being the first Nigerian to lecture at that level.

“Dr. Pantami’s integrity and credibility precede him, and his fight against corruption in both official and personal capacities have become a reference point, not only nationally, but globally.

The minister then asked the public to ignore the publication, while urging the media to undertake investigative journalism in order to avoid peddling false information.
