Agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 in Southern Ijaw LGA Amassoma II have called for the cancellation of the results of the February 25, 2023 general elections in the area.

The agents alleged that BVAS was by-passed during the election and that the adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were beaten up and locked up by the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ward.

They also alleged that there was an error in the process, and that the results of four out of the 30 polling units in the ward were misplaced and later recovered.

According to the agents, the attention of the Electoral Officer (EO), was drawn to the situation, but he was not on ground, adding that the Assistant Electoral Officer (AEO), Administration 1 stood in his place.

The Electoral Officer of Southern Ijaw LGA at the presidential collation center in Yenagoa Bayelsa said that “results were collated for the presidential election in the LGA without Ward 10 results as the BVAS were bypassed and some adhoc staff of the INEC were beaten, and detained for over three hours and elections were conducted in the night.”

The agents then called on the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commissioner – REC to cancel Amassoma II Ward 10 results as it were done in the presidential collation, “because elections were carried out simultaneously as accreditation and voting were done side by side for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.”
