Air Force Plane Crashes In Borno

A Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 Helicopter on a training mission on Monday crashed due to a technical fault at a location South of Bama, Borno State, the Director of Information, Nigeria Defence Headquarters, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in a press statement.

Some observers, however, reasoned that the craft could have been blown off by the insurgents who have taken hold of over half of Borno State.

An officer, who spoke anonymously to journalists, before Olukolade’s press statement said, a surveillance jet was shot down by the insurgents around Bama.

But in the press statement by Olukolade, it was revealed that “investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.”

He discounted the insinuation that the plane crashed as a result of insurgency attack, saying “it is established that the crash is not as a result of any enemy action.”

Olukolade promised that further details on the crash would be made known after investigation.
